Quick fit by pants size
| How the belt is worn | Order this size |
|---|---|
| Worn without anything hanging on it | 1 size larger than your pants size — pants 36, order a 38 belt |
| Used to carry a holster, tool or other gear | 2 sizes larger than your pants size — pants 36, order a 40 belt |
Between two pants sizes, round up. This rule fits more than 95% of buyers; measuring a belt you already own gives a closer result.
Belt size chart (everyday leather belts)
Everyday belts have six holes spaced 1 inch apart, so the belt can be worn about 2 inches tighter or looser than its third hole.
| Belt size | Measurement to 3rd hole | Measurement to end of belt |
|---|---|---|
| 32 | 32" | 38" |
| 34 | 34" | 40" |
| 36 | 36" | 42" |
| 38 | 38" | 44" |
| 40 | 40" | 46" |
| 42 | 42" | 48" |
| 44 | 44" | 50" |
| 46 | 46" | 52" |
| 48 | 48" | 54" |
| 50 | 50" | 56" |
| 52 | 52" | 58" |
| 54 | 54" | 60" |
| 56 | 56" | 62" |
| 58 | 58" | 64" |
| 60 | 60" | 66" |
Belts are handmade: individual pieces can differ slightly from the numbers above, which does not affect the fit.
Women’s belt size chart
Women’s belts are sold by letter size. The range is the body measurement the belt is cut for; the other two columns are measurements of the belt itself.
| Size | Fits body measurement | Measurement to 3rd hole | Measurement to end of belt |
|---|---|---|---|
| XSM | 27" - 32" | 30" | 36" |
| SML | 31" - 36" | 34" | 40" |
| MED | 35" - 40" | 38" | 44" |
| LRG | 39" - 44" | 42" | 48" |
| XLG | 43" - 48" | 46" | 52" |
| XXL | 47" - 52" | 50" | 56" |
If the belt you are replacing falls between two letter sizes, choose the larger one.
How to measure a belt you already own
This is the most accurate method: it takes a few minutes and uses the belt whose fit you like.
- Lay the belt flat on a table. A slight curve is normal — measure straight through the curve.
- Place the end of a tape measure where the leather folds over the buckle. Do not include the buckle.
- Measure in inches to the hole you use most often when buckling.
- Find that number in the “Measurement to 3rd hole” column of the chart above.
- Between two sizes, go up one size. If you plan to lose weight, go down one instead.
Example: a 37" measurement sits between the 36 and 38 sizes, so order a 38 belt. A 45" measurement takes a 46 belt.
Casual belts and between sizes
Casual belts: order 1 size larger than your waist — a 36 waist takes a 38 belt. Round up between sizes.
If the belt will sometimes carry tools or gear, order 2 sizes larger than your waist — a 36 waist takes a 40 belt.
Belt sizes are cut in even numbers only, so a measurement between two sizes always rounds to the next size up.
Measuring to the third hole leaves two holes on each side, which covers small changes in weight or layering.
